MouseDesk 2.0 for Apple II

This version, downloaded from Apple Users Group Sydney is surprisingly good. Here it is running in my Virtual II Emulator. I even ran a basic program by double clicking on the icon and after I quit it and received the basic prompt ] I typed “bye” and it took me back to the GUI interface. You can see one of the disk images is 32mb. I was pleased you could drive down through the folders without issue. [ April 13, 2017: added a short video of booting ] [April 14, 2014 Added some pics of it running on my Laser128EX] [April 30, 2017 You’ll see I run it on Speed setting #2 in Virtual II. When set on #3 the mouse double-clicked open folder is not recognized. ]

Using drag and drop to copy AppleWorks 3 folder from one Drive to another.

Created a physical 3.5″ disk using ADTPro from my MacBook to IIGS. Then booted on Laser128EX.

Mouse Desk makes itself RAM resident so almost all the functions can be
completed if you remove the MouseDesk disk.

I was able to copy a AppleWorks 3 folder from one hard drive image to another with
the folder containing 100 files. I was also able to format another 3.5 disk in the
same slot where I removed the MouseDesk disk.

I did latter on a Laser128EX after I made a physical 3.5″ disk of the MouseDesk 2
image. I ended up making a couple back ups of the disk.

MouseDesk 2 was even smart enough to get you back to the booting image after
you quit a program. I double clicked on a basic program to run it and when I quit it,
arriving back at a basic prompt [ I typed “bye”. It returned me right back to
MouseDesk.

TimeTrax II for Apple IIe [ Time-Trax II ]

I’ll outline Setup process. Then there are a series of pictures on step by step. It’s running in Virtual II Emulator. Below is the location of the TimeTrax.dsk.

[ To Setup: the key thing is you need to have a workable Data Disk created for this program. So, 1) put a disk in drive 2 and format it with the Utilities part of the TimeTrax program, then 2) you have to make an actual Data File. The program does not create one on the fly like AppleWorks. The funny thing is you need to Save the Data File before you can Add it to the Desktop, and then you can Work it. You Save it from the Main Menu. You’re essentially creating a blank database file which can then work with. If you use the Catalog function from the disk activities option you’ll note the new blank file is 4k or 5k in size. ]

ProDOS 2.4.1 : I replaced the original ProDOS to allow for better date/time control, I think. I also renamed the default clock.system file so it would not be used and allow ProDOS to read date/time from ThunderClock card in the configuration. See picture below. I’m not sure why the program chose 1996. The Monday January 1st works, but it’s a leap year and 2018 is not.

After you have created a data disk and working file, as mentioned above, you can set it to pull a default schedule. Here it’s looking for A2018 but the data disk is in D6S2 and I needed to change current disk to read S6D2 in this screen shot.

Adding a Personal Holiday. It does not show up on the calendar with the Apple icon like an appointment.

Searching.

Catalog of Disk with new ProDOS 2.4.1 and clock.system renamed. Clock.system tries to read the Computer Peripherals clock. It’s not an option in Virtual II.

I tried using No-Slot-Clock but carries forward today’s date/time from the MacBook but as 1918, not 2018. So I went to using the Thunderclock. Works well. It reads Jan 1, 1996 which has January 1st as a Monday. Only issue is 1996 is a leap year so I lose continuity next month. I have no idea why 1996 is being used.

CiderPress – Creating Disk Images from BXY Files

I downloaded a number of BXY files (filename.bxy) that contained Christmas art for Apple II Programs. In the example below I used PublishIt4 to import the individual pictures.

Anyway, the bxy files contained 24 pictures each but only 8 can fit on a 5.25 disk image. Here is a picture in CiderPress. You can also create a .2mg file containing all 24 files if you want. I created all 24 on a 800k.po file and then converted it to the 2mg. Works perfectly fine in the Virtual II Emulator as long as you configure Virtual II with SCSI drives. See earlier blog post on doing this. I think you can search on OmniDisk.

I used File, Open dropdown to view contents. Then, I selected the pictures I wanted. Next, go to Actions, Convert to disk archive. Following usual CiderPress actions, Name the volume, click OK, and then save file, use same name or different name. This gives you a filename.po image which I loaded to my Virtual IIe Emulator. Below is a snapshot of PublishIt4 printout of some of the pictures.

VisiCalc v1.37 and v2.08 for Apple ll

I’ve been experimenting with VisiCalc on the Apple IIe and Franklin Ace500. I also ran it (v2.08) on the IIGS, the TransWarpGS, from the floppy. VisiCalc was the first really super Spreadsheet program for desktop platforms. It came out in 1979 developed by Dan Bricklin. It has a very interesting command structure as every row/column action or save/load action begins with a ” / “. The trickiest thing was learning how to control the movement up/down and right/left until I found the Reference Guide. You need to tap the space bar each time you want to switch between x and y axis. Also, you still use the ß à arrows whether going sideways or up down. Here is a link to the program and reference card.

AceCalc v2.0 by Franklin on Apple lle

I’m playing with AceCalc by Franklin from 1983. Operates in a similar fashion to VisiCalc. Here’s a link to the download and manuals.

MultiScribe 3.01c for Apple II ProDOS 8

Here is the MultiScribe program that became BeagleWrite. I didn’t have a MultiScribe Desk Accessory disk image so I just inserted the BeagleWrite Desk Accessory version and worked like a charm.

Lots of fun font play and different justifications. The justifications are controlled by inserting rulers.


RamWorks8M from A2Heaven.com for Apple IIe

I bought this 8 MB RamWorks8M card from A2Heaven.com to max out the memory in my IIe. My IIe was using both a RamWorks 1 and an Apple 1 MB cards taking up the Aux Slot and another Slot. With the RamWorks8M card I could eliminate the Apple 1MB card and open a slot, as well as reducing electrical draw. The following pictures include shots from both my actual IIe and the Virtual II Emulator. The Emulator provides better clarity of image since I need to reduce resolution so much with real pictures to save space.

The card is little bigger than a credit card. Note the pointing finger and keyboard image on the card to illustrate direction of Install.
